So this plan I – when I was twenty, I decided to traveling; I like to traveling as well, so I decided to find a job where I can see many where – many places so I can travel around. So first I tried to find a job where I can do it on the road, so I, I, I — either I became a casino dealer or a bartender. I decide to s – work in a casino. So, first, the first step for me that’s to, to pick up some English. So I, I had to go – I had the chance to go to [?], so I stayed there. I wanted to go there for, for a year to pick up the English, but my, my plan was a bit changed, so I stayed there eight years, not because my English was slowly, slowly p – pick up; I had other things. So, but, this dream: It’s never [went] out of my head, so I always wanted to try the ship life, how it is and traveling around the world. So when, when I get the chance [unintelligible] it’s, I could finish my life what I s-started there, I decided it: “OK, let’s do it now, and let’s try the ship life how it is.” So it’s – and now I’m here; I managed.

The archive provides:
- Recordings of accent/dialect speakers from the region you select.
- Text of the speakers’ biographical details.
- Scholarly commentary and analysis in some cases.
- In most cases, an orthographic transcription of the speakers’ unscripted speech. In a small number of cases, you will also find a narrow phonetic transcription of the sample (see Phonetic Transcriptions for a complete list). The recordings average four minutes in length and feature both the reading of one of two standard passages, and some unscripted speech. The two passages are Comma Gets a Cure (currently our standard passage) and The Rainbow Passage (used in our earliest recordings).
