ORTHOGRAPHIC TRANSCRIPTION OF UNSCRIPTED SPEECH:
I have absolutely no idea what to tell about myself. Mmm, today was, um, an eventful day, so I wanted to relax in the evening, and right now I’m watching old movies with Belmondo and drink cocoa and hug my warm, wool cat. Because real autumn has come to Moscow and such a pastime seems to be the surest option.
[The subject says roughly the same thing in Russian]: Некоторым людям нравится осень. А я не пероношу это ощущение – умирание природы, остывающий, холодный воздух, и запах прелых листьев по утрам. Мне кажется, я должна была родиться у тёплого океана, но что-то пошло не так. И каждый сентябрь, октябрь, ноябрь, декабрь и так далее – большая трагедия для меня. Мне нужно тепло и солнце. [Transliteration: Neckotorym lyudyam nravitsya osen’. A ya ne perenoshu eto uschuschenie – umiranie prirody, ostivayuschiy, kholodniy vozdukh, ih zapakh prelykh list’ev po utram. Mne khazhetsya, ya dolzhna byla roditsya uh teplogo okheana, no chto-to poshlo ne takh. Ih khazhdiy sentyabr’, oktyabr’, noyabr’, dekabr’ ih takh dale – bol’shaya tragediya dlya menya. Mne nuzhno teplo ih solntse.]TRANSCRIBED BY: Ivan Masterov

The archive provides:
- Recordings of accent/dialect speakers from the region you select.
- Text of the speakers’ biographical details.
- Scholarly commentary and analysis in some cases.
- In most cases, an orthographic transcription of the speakers’ unscripted speech. In a small number of cases, you will also find a narrow phonetic transcription of the sample (see Phonetic Transcriptions for a complete list). The recordings average four minutes in length and feature both the reading of one of two standard passages, and some unscripted speech. The two passages are Comma Gets a Cure (currently our standard passage) and The Rainbow Passage (used in our earliest recordings).
