Announcing a great new audiobook

For a great example of a Rhode Island/Boston dialect – plus some fascinating cultural history – check out the new audiobook by Sarah Jo Burke about the Burke Family Singers. It’s available at Audible, Amazon, and Downpour. (Sarah’s partner, Karen Ryker, is a former IDEA editor.) Sarah was a well-known member of the 1960s group, which has been described as “America’s answer to Austria’s von Trapp Family.”

“Sarah’s parents were Boston Irish (Dad from Brockton, Massachusetts; Mum from Dorchester when it was predominantly Irish), and the first three children were born in Boston,” Karen says. “But they were raised in Peace Dale (South Kingstown-South County), Rhode Island, and Sarah thinks that her accent is predominately from this area.”
